At the "Connections Wargaming Conference US 2024," T&P Análises made history as the sole Brazilian representative, underscoring our dedication to fostering a wargame culture in Brazil and showcasing our expertise in designing and conducting professional wargames globally.
The Conference in Detail
From June 25th to 27th, the “Connections Wargaming Conference 2024” took place in collaboration with the “U.S. Army War College” at the “Army Heritage and Education Center” in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. In addition to covering various topics on the subject, the conference's focal point was “Educational Wargaming: Play to Learn, Play to Win.”
The conference featured six panels run by experts and professionals from government organizations, think tanks, and private businesses. About 45 presentations covered topics related to the theory and practice of wargames. Additionally, the event showcased demonstrations of professional games ("Game Demos") and hosted a session titled "Game Lab."
The "Game Demos," included in the conference's programming, promote a game demonstration session every year as a way in which participants can present their games and tools that may be of interest to other participants, in addition to being an efficient way to get involved and obtain feedback on the formulated game from a wide variety of WarGamers practitioners. The demo consists of setting up your game, display, or tool so that other participants can move between the various tables, see your demo, hear what you have to say and ask questions, although you may also have time to run a few short rounds.
The "Game Lab" at the "Connections Wargaming Conference" is a forum for small group discussions, where attendees choose topics for constructive debates. This highly valued and productive segment allowed participants to drive conversations by shaping themes. It served as a valuable platform to gather diverse insights and opinions from experts in the wargaming community.
Conference Background
The Connections Wargaming Conference is an annual event designed to bring practitioners from across the wargaming community together. It is open to all practitioners and encourages international participation.
"Connections US" has been an annual event since 1993, while "Connections UK" took place in 2013 at "Kings College London." In 2014, "Connections Australia" debuted at the University of Melbourne, coinciding with the inception of "Connections Netherlands" by SAGANET. Subsequently, "Connections North" (Canada) was established in 2016. These conferences are independently managed, yet they share the goal of providing a platform for wargaming practitioners to exchange best practices and enhance their understanding of the professional wargaming domain. The "Connections Wargaming Conferences" worldwide help build and expand the community of practice and foster the development and preservation of wargaming methodology as a valuable tool for research, analysis, education, and tackling complex problems.
Perspective
The founders and organizers of the "Connections Wargaming Conference" have given T&P Analises approval and authorization to establish "Connections BR" as the Brazilian representative at the conference's international forum. We are dedicated to organizing the first edition of this conference in Brazil soon, with the support of our national wargaming community and potential new members.
